Child Protection

One of the greatest responsibilities adults ever face is the protection of children under their care. That is a duty that falls heavily upon those who minister in the name of the Church because children are entrusted to us in so many ways – in schools, in religious education, in Scouting, on field trips, and in sports. Parents have a right to expect that their children are as safe as humanly possible in all of these situations.

Archbishop Dennis M. Schnurr

Bishop Leibold School adheres to the guidelines set forth by the Archdiocese of Cincinnati in the Decree on Child Protection when it comes to our faculty, staff, and volunteers.

A thorough background check is required for all those employed or volunteering to work with youth or vulnerable adults as a cleric, at a parish or school, as an Archdiocesan employee or at an Archdiocesan institution. All volunteers and employees are required to complete the electronic/online background check through SELECTION.com prior to beginning their volunteer activity or employment. In addition to the electronic/online background check, employees are required to complete manual fingerprinting and submit a B4 form before beginning their employment at an Archdiocesan parish, school, or institution.

All new employees (cleric, parish, school, Archdiocesan employees and Archdiocesan institutions) must complete both manual and an electronic background check at the time of employment with no further requirement for a manual fingerprint completed in the future.  This electronic background check is done through SELECTiON.COM Current employees must sign up for electronic background  checks through SELECTiON.COM within 5 years of their last manual fingerprinting or December 31, 2018 whichever is sooner.

Who is a Volunteer?

A "regular volunteer" as defined by the Decree means a catechist, scout leader, coach, server coordinator, etc. who functions in a regular, significant relationship with children. This includes interns, student teachers, and others in a similar capacity. Moreover, any volunteer who works with children more than one (1) hour should comply with the diocesan policy. It does not include the occasional volunteer such as a driver or chaperone for individual activities.
